Rho Pi Phi is a international pharmaceutical fraternity dedicated to serving the school and community through the strengths of brotherhood, professionalism and academics.  We are a co-ed fraternity and actively looking for men and women willing to take on the challenges and responsibilities of becoming a leader in our profession.  The California Northstate University Upsilon Lambda chapter was founded in 2011 by 10 brothers who sought to bring together an organization that could help strengthen both our profession and our new school.  Every year our members participate in many events, both pharmacy related and non-related, to help spread the name of the school across the healthcare field.  Despite being a young fraternity, we are a fearless group of activate individuals and are committed to help advance the art and science of pharmacy.

The formation of Rho Pi Phi International Fraternity began with an incident which occurred during the month of November, 1918 at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. A bulletin appeared which implied that students of various denominations of color need not apply for membership into existing fraternities. This aroused a great deal of concern amongst the faculty and the non-fraternity students. With the approval of the Dean, sixteen men and women formed the Ram Bam Pharmaceutical Society. These individuals felt the impact of segregation and therefore formed a non-sectarian organization.  The following year, 1919, Rho Pi Phi Fraternity was organized and chartered. International status was gained with the formation of a Canadian group, Nu Chapter, at the University of Toronto in 1926.

The first Rho Pi Phi national convention was held in 1922, under the direction of Frater Isaac Weiser.  During this convention, the first Supreme Council of Rho Pi Phi was elected and included officer positions such as the Supreme Councillor, Vice Supreme Councillor, Scribe and Guardian of Exchequer.  The conventions are now run under the supervision of the Supreme Council and are typically held at summer resort locations to combine both the professional meeting and a relaxing vacation.

Rho Pi Phi Fraternity first began editing and publishing its own magazine in 1929, which was known as "The Quarterly Review".  After many generations of transformations, the journal of Rho Pi Phi is now published as "Rope Links" and includes information from both convention journals and quarterly newsletters.
